Impacted
Two hearts nestled comfortably together.
Then, cutting up through bone and skin,
I lodged my own between the two.
I left it growing in sideways
Nuzzling against one,
Grinding its crooked veins into the other.
Each heart began a dull, throbbing beat
that reached its way up through clenched teeth to aching minds.
Lightheaded and weary,
I breathed in, and laughed in pain until I fell asleep.
With a sharp crack,
Reality awoke me with its fist to my jaw,
To alert me to the abscess of my heart's absence.
I inhaled shards into the bare rawness,
And poured in endorphin's nepenthe.
I am drunk on glorious pain,
