NOTE: I apologize for the slight blurriness in the middle. I had to piece it together due to its size since my scanner wasn't big enough and I did the best I could.

Ourobori (my attempt at pluralizing the word "Ouroboros") are rainbow serpents which bite their own tails and thus their circular shape is a symbol for infinity. They are self-sustaining, as all the food they need are themselves, and they are eternal, perfect beings.

From Wikipedia: "Plato described a self-eating, circular being as the first living thing in the universe-- an immortal, perfectly constructed animal."

---------------------------------

Now. Here is a picture of Dyscrasia. He is technically an Ouroboros but is definitely unlike most. Notice the lack of a tail in his mouth, yes? Definitely NOT typical Ouro behavior.

Dyscrasia is an Anti-Ouroboros. The essence of an Ouro is self-preservation and self-sustenance--whereas Dyscrasia is bent on self-destruction. The reason he is like an Ouroboros, is that he does bite himself, but not his tail—he bites himself anywhere on his body, and not gently like a normal Ouro does.

Normal Ouros represent dark and light, such as yin and yang, all in one being, but those opposites are never in conflict with each other. Part of this is due to the self-devouring self-preserving natural essence of the Ouroboros.

Dyscrasia’s natural balance of dark and light is disrupted and is therefore chaotic and unstable. Dark and light are in an eternal conflict within his body and thus his innate tendency to bite his tail is ignored, instead, he bites all parts of his body, (often ripping off pieces of flesh and even limbs,) slams himself against walls, claws at himself, among other self-tortures. Sometimes he even gets drunk on his own blood. He starves himself and pains himself. He is a creature of self-loathing and despair.

His amputated limbs are evidence of his self-destruction, but for every limb that is bitten off, more grow in its place or on other parts of the body. Sometimes black vines grow instead, corrupting him more with the ink toxins that they create which then seep into his bloodstream and nervous system. The regeneration that results from his self-destruction seems to be evidence of hydra blood in his genes, perhaps, but as a result of this mutation the regenerations, being haphazard, seem to be due to a flaw in his regeneration coding.

Thus the things which sprout from him at times can be beautiful, shining and magnificent, or at other times can be cruel, terrible, frightful and ugly. He has the potential to become good or bad, but due to various glitches he cannot control them.

He is the bastardized* child of a sane monster and an insane monster. He is two beings in one. He is an Ouroboros that denies his existence as one. He is the contradiction. He is self-existent-denial. He craves his own blood. He wishes to silence his own mind. His body and mind have become a cancerous war.

He has proclaimed himself vainly as the God of self-destroying, self-preserving dualities. He is to Ourobori as Satan is to God. The vain abomination. God created the Ouros as perfect beings. Dyscrasia saw none at his level, the highest of all—as high as a god...yet lower than dirt. He both venerates and reviles himself. And thus he began to change. He no longer was a shining archangel of dragons, but was cast out of heaven and thrown into the dust of the earth, writhing in agony as his mind split even further, creating the beginning of his insanity. He is a misanthrope and a humanist. He is bipolar. He is a vile being who does not deserve to exist, yet is the highest of all in his ways. He has the potential to become something great, and calls upon this when he is in need of restoration, and often shines again as an Ouro in his dreams at night, golden and hovering as a shining halo in the starry night sky.

He loathes to be seen by others, humans or otherwise. His bouts of insanity have rarely been seen by anyone other than his own degenerate eyes, for this desire to calm his ravaged mind by numbing it with pain brings him great shame and fear--fear of what others might think or do in response. Thus he is a lonely creature and suffers in silence.

Whether this is better for everyone in the end can be argued.

*bastardized not as in born out of wedlock, I used bastardized like Hitler did in Mein Kampf to describe inferior beings....No I am not trying to be Hitler....I just liked the word.

Here's info about how I drew this being if you're interested:

Did this with pen and ink, as usual.

I didn’t name him Dyscrasia. I didn’t even know Dyscrasia was a word. I looked it up just now to see if it was a word and if it was what it meant. Taken from Wikipedia:
Dyscrasia (from Greek "Dyskrasia", meaning bad mixture), in Ancient Greek medicine, is the imbalance of the four humours, and was believed to be the direct cause of all disease. This is similar to the Asian concept of Yin and Yang; it was believed that imbalance of the two polarities caused ailment.

I originally set out to draw an avatar of an emotion. I didn’t know which emotion at the time, but I wanted to draw one. One of these days I’m going to draw avatars for many of the major emotions. Wrath was the first one. The Beast of Contemplation basically drew himself. Cupid was a messenger of one of the moods—the exploration of the concept of Love. Love itself I have yet to draw. (Then of course the ones that don't have their own pictures, such as The Pale Horse from "My Demons Will Become Yours" and The God of Roaches from "I Walk Among the Roaches.")

And now we have Dyscrasia.

When I originally started drawing Dyscrasia, as when I usually draw in ink, I let whatever movement which presented itself manifest in my hand and onto the paper. I was trying to figure out what mood he could possibly represent so I went to wikipedia and looked for a list of emotions. I found an interesting word, “weltschmerz” and thought that perhaps that complex mood might be him.
Something just didn’t seem right, though. When you make characters and drawings, you just know when something isn’t right, when something doesn’t fit the character. It’s as obvious as when, say, a close friend of yours whose nature you’ve gotten used to starts behaving strangely. You know that something doesn’t quite fit.

So Weltschmerz wasn’t his purpose. Neither was…*looks on back of drawing at the list of words she wrote down* misanthropy, malice, socio-phobia, loneliness, bipolarism (and, actually, now that I think of it, I’ve already drawn an avatar for that too. Ultradianima. Of course, she’s only an avatar of one specific kind of bipolarism.) dichotomy, and kalism (lol that’s not a word or a mood, but I wrote it down.) I thought maybe it was even love-sickness because of the big chunk taken out of his stomach/heart region, but, nope, wasn’t that.

And then as I stared at him I realized he was an ouroboros, not a normal one for he wasn’t holding his tail, and he was wounded and missing body parts…So I decided to write a description for him, and I got tired of saying “he is an ouroboros, he is this, he is that.” I got tired of calling him “he” and wanted to know his name. And the word “Dyscrasia” popped into my head. I dunno how it got there, but apparently, I was right. It seemed to fit, and after looking it up in curiosity….it only proves that this is his true name.

That is one twisted creature indeed. :o All those details must have been hellish to put in there.

And it's a really great story to go along with him!

Thank you, and thank you. :D

I've been trying to get myself to do more and more detailed things. It's never enough for me. The only thing I struggled with here was trying to think of textures and things to put on him. It's hard to be creative.
